Improvements after Sunday's update - RSS feeds and styles

Remember when your parents told you your dog got sent to a farm? This is that farm, except it's full of old monthly discussion threads.

Improvements after Sunday's update - RSS feeds and styles

Postby Owen » Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:26 pm

First of all, apologies to anyone who was waiting for the forums during the update. Something in our server settings stopped the automatic update working, and with other improvements that meant a total downtime of 3 hours :?

Anyways, amongst other things this update means I'm now ready to install additional styles to the board - something a few of you have been asking about for a while. I haven't installed any extra styles yet, as I don't want to just install a slew of them, so I thought I'd let you make your suggestions below - just give me a name and a link and I'll be happy to check them out :D

The other new feature on the user side is that it is now possible to get an RSS feed for the forums - whether for an individual forum (Noir, for example?) or for all of them. Again, I haven't set this up yet - if people are interested then I will see about it.

Hope you enjoy your shiny new forums - as always, please let me know if you spot anything which is not working as it should after the update and I'll do my best to fix it!

Thanks for your patience,
Owen

oh man, RSS for this place would be just as bad as my Kotaku one. 1000+ unread, and not a care in the world to read half of them.
I for one welcome our new computer overlords

In the User Control Panel, on the Board Preferences tab, with the Edit Display Option subsection, I get a weird duplication: "Display quick reply panel at topic view: Yes No" is displayed twice.

I don't know if it always did that, but I only just noticed it. Nothing else seems weird to me.

Double post: Fixed.

I had a look at adding options to disable the chatbox on the index and to disable the banner rotation while I was there, but I must be missing something basic as it wouldn't stick. I'll keep looking into that.

It seems like the quick reply box is really unnecessarily huge right now. I preferred it to be smaller.

Also, here's a big database of different styles for phpBB. People can look through that to find something to recommend. (Not all of them allow custom banners at the top, though, so be wary of that.)
